FAQ

The pon Apple Watch app allows you to manage your shopping list directly from your wrist – without needing to take out your iPhone.

🔹 Features of the Apple Watch App:
Check off items: Mark completed purchases with a tap.
View new items: Your list syncs with your iPhone and other devices.
Shop without an iPhone: You can access your list even without your iPhone – however, synchronization with others will only happen once your iPhone and Apple Watch reconnect.

📌 Note: The Apple Watch app requires your iPhone nearby to sync changes with others in real-time. If you go shopping without your iPhone, all changes will be transmitted later once the devices reconnect.

If the pon app on your Apple Watch doesn’t start or only shows the message “Waiting for connection”, it may be that the synchronization between the iPhone and Watch has stalled.

🔹 Here’s how to solve the problem:
Restart iPhone and Apple Watch: Turn off both devices completely and restart them. This often helps restore synchronization.
Open the pon app on the iPhone: If the issue persists, open the pon app on the iPhone – the Watch app requires the iPhone to be nearby for list syncing.
Check installation:

  • Open the Watch app on the iPhone.
  • Scroll down to pon and make sure the app is installed.
  • If necessary, remove the app from the Watch and reinstall it.

📌 Note: The Apple Watch is not the primary device for list synchronization – this happens via the iPhone. If the issue persists after these steps, feel free to contact support. 😊

With pon, you can precisely choose which notifications you want to receive – ensuring you only get the information that matters to you.

🔹 How to customize notifications:

  1. Open a shopping list.
  2. Tap on the list name at the top.
  3. Select “Notifications” and adjust the settings.

📌 Available options:
Notify participants: Receive a push notification when someone from your list goes shopping.
List changes: Get notified when someone adds or removes an item.
Location-based shopping reminders: Get a notification when you pass by a shopping location.

💡 Tip: If you don’t need certain notifications, you can disable them anytime – keeping your smartphone free from unnecessary alerts.

If your shopping list is not displayed in the expected order, there could be several reasons. pon uses smart sorting to optimize your shopping order, but certain conditions must be met for it to work correctly.

Possible causes & solutions

1️⃣ Smart sorting hasn’t gathered enough data yet
pon learns over time in which order you check off items while shopping. To ensure reliable sorting, you should check off at least 5 items per shopping trip and remove them from the list after shopping.

2️⃣ Location detection is disabled
For pon to recognize which supermarket you are in, location detection must be enabled. Check the permissions in the iOS settings under “Privacy → Location Services” to ensure pon has access to your location.

3️⃣ Shopping locations are missing or set to “any”
Items without a designated shopping location cannot be properly grouped or sorted. Assign a specific shopping location under “Where to buy” to ensure pon organizes them correctly.

4️⃣ Checked-off items were not removed
Smart sorting only works if checked-off items are deleted after shopping. Pull down the list or shake your iPhone to remove them. If you uncheck items, pon interprets this as undoing the action – the original order will remain unchanged.

5️⃣ The sorting was manually changed
If you rearranged items using drag & drop, pon will take this change into account for future shopping trips. Smart sorting continuously adapts to your shopping habits.

Tip

If you want an immediate adjustment, you can move items via drag & drop to a different position – these changes will be incorporated into smart sorting.

pon requests permissions only when they are necessary for a specific function. Each permission is used exclusively for its intended purpose – never for tracking or data sharing. pon leverages modern smartphone technology to make your shopping experience as convenient as possible – everything works locally on your device, without us collecting or storing any data.

Which permissions are required and why?

📍 Location access (Geofencing & GPS)

  • Enables shopping reminders when you pass by a shopping location.
  • Uses automatic grouping by shopping locations, so you always see what you can buy at each place.
  • Detects when a list participant starts shopping to notify you.
  • pon does not store or transmit your location. The app only triggers the information that a shopping trip is taking place at a specific supermarket – the exact location remains unknown.

📷 Camera access

  • Required for the barcode scanner, allowing you to scan items quickly.
  • Allows you to add your own product images.

📇 Contacts access (optional)

  • If you want to share your shopping list with others, you can allow pon to access your address book to quickly select email addresses.
  • pon reads contacts only locally on your device and does not store them.

🔔 Notifications (Push notifications)

  • Notifies you when a list participant starts shopping or the list is updated.
  • Used for silent push notifications to keep lists up to date – so you can see changes without opening the app.

🖼️ Photo access (optional)

  • Allows you to add images to products from your photo library.

Privacy & Security

  • pon does not analyze your user behavior.
  • All data is transmitted securely and is not shared with third parties.
  • Location data remains on your device and is not stored.

Give it a try!

Many of the great things that make pon different only work with these permissions. Modern smartphones offer amazing features to make your life easier – pon leverages these possibilities.

💡 Our recommendation: Grant the permissions and try out the features. If you later realize that you don’t need a certain function, you can revoke the permissions anytime in your device settings.

pon was designed to think with you – not to collect data. Everything runs as much as possible locally on your device, making pon truly unique.
